The concept of patience (ṣabr) represents one of the most frequently occurring and fundamental themes in the Quran. The theoretical understanding and definition of patience significantly influence its practical manifestations, particularly in social contexts. This study presents a novel examination of the Quranic concept of patience through the analytical lens of Ayatollah Khamenei's interpretative framework. Using a descriptive-analytical methodology, the research demonstrates that Ayatollah Khamenei identifies steadfastness and perseverance as the core elements of patience in its Quranic applications. Within this interpretative framework, patience intersects with other Quranic concepts, including tawakkul (trust in God), baṣīrah (insight), ṣalāt (prayer), yaqīn (certainty), and taqwā (God-consciousness). These interconnected concepts define the semantic field of patience and illuminate its dual manifestations: active and passive patience. The study argues that the adopted definition of patience—whether understood as steadfast perseverance or as passive endurance—significantly influences the dominant social discourse. Consequently, these contrasting interpretations shape distinct paradigms for faithbased societies and their members' trajectories. This research contributes to the broader scholarly discussion on Quranic hermeneutics and its societal implications.
