Abstract
Tadabbur (contemplation) in the Holy Quran, as one of the key methods of engaging with the Quran, has become a prominent approach in contemporary Iran, particularly after the Islamic Revolution, for understanding and applying Quranic teachings. The Quran’s emphasis on tadabbur in verses such as “A blessed Book which We have sent down to you, that they may contemplate its verses” (Surah Sad, 38:29) has paved the way for the emergence of diverse tadabbur movements in Iran. Each movement, with its unique methods and perspectives, particularly in the social dimension, has contributed to promoting the understanding and practice of the Quran. This research aims to critically analyze six prominent tadabbur movements in contemporary Iran with a social approach, examining their characteristics, strengths, and shortcomings in promoting the social understanding and application of the Quran. The research employs a descriptive-analytical method, with data collected through library resources and field studies, including interviews with key figures. The findings indicate that these movements have achieved successes in areas such as integrating with social sciences, public promotion, and structured education. However, significant shortcomings, including insufficient attention to hadiths, weak social reasoning, lack of practical solutions, and inadequate emphasis on social action, have posed major obstacles to the development of social tadabbur. By critically evaluating these movements and offering practical recommendations, this study seeks to strengthen the social approach to tadabbur for a deeper impact on guiding society and aligning contemplation with the practice of the Quran.
