Abstract

The noble verse "وَ اجْتَنِبُوا قَوْلَ الزُّورِ" (Hajj/30) is one of the most debated verses in the field of interpretation, with commentators from both Sunni and Shia traditions presenting diverse and varying views on its meaning. This article aims to analyze the interpretative perspective of Ayatollah Khamenei (may his shadow remain) on this verse and critique the views of commentators from both traditions. Initially, the literal meanings of the words "قول" (speech) and "الزور" (falsehood) are examined, followed by the presentation of three diverse perspectives on "قول زور" (false speech) under three general theories: "قول باطل" (false speech), "فعل باطل" (false action), and "باطل مطلق" (absolute falsehood). The first perspective considers قول زور to include lying, slander, and false testimony. The second perspective interprets it as behaviors such as singing (غنا) and misleading actions. Meanwhile, the third perspective, attributed to Ayatollah Khamenei, interprets "قول زور" as absolute falsehood in speech, behavior, and thought. This research, through its examinations, demonstrates that the third perspective is more comprehensive and accurate than other views, as it aligns more closely with Quranic and narrative foundations. This interpretation emphasizes the fight against any deviation from truth in all aspects of individual and social life.
